Females love to look feminine and glamorous in heels, however, they do wreck havoc on the feet by applying stress and pressure which leads to nail problems, corns, callouses, blisters, knee, back and heel pain.  It is possible to limit this discomfort by following these tips:

  1. Limit your wearing to special occasions or just a couple of hours a day.
  2. Wear flats to work and change when you get to work if wearing heels is necessary.
  3. If you work in an office keep your shoes off whilst sitting at your desk
  4. Limit the heel height if you can, if you feel you need height to make yourself feel more confident then try wearing wedges which distribute the weight and pressure more evenly.
  5. Slow down your stride when walking
  6. Spend time checking the fit especially if the style has a narrow toe box. Consider trying a larger size.
  7. For some people, full-time use of wearing heels causes the calf muscle to shorten which means wearing flats or even walking bare footed can be uncomfortable.
  8. Consider wearing gel pads inside the shoes to ease pressure and provide more comfort
  9. At the end of the day look after your feet by giving them a soak and massage with a little emollient (avoid between the toes as you don’t want to encourage fungal) and stretch out the toes and calf muscles.
  10. Thank your feet for all the steps it has taken that day and every day.
