  • Never walk barefooted
  • Check feet daily in particular look for breaks in the skin. Use a mirror or ask someone to check for you.  Take pics with your camera  so you can keep a record
  • Wash and dry your feet daily including the soles of the feet and in between the toes. Remember to dry properly to avoid fungal infection and athletes’ foot.
  • Check feet for redness, signs of infection including swelling, puss, ingrowing nails, splinters, glisters and breaks in the skin.
  • Always have your callouses and corns treated by a podiatrist. Never attempt to treat these yourself.
  • Cut nails straight across carefully with a good quality clippers.
  • Moisturise feet daily avoiding between toes to avoid fungal to ensure skin integrity.
  • Use seamless cotton socks and not too tight socks in natural material.
  • Protect feet by wearing properly fitted supportive shoes and check the insides daily for debri or foreign objects.
  • Keep feet away from direct heat including heaters, test bath temperature with elbows and not the feet, also check temperature of hot water bottles and electric blankets.
  • Keep active and exercise regularly .
  • See a podiatrist at least once a year to check on vascular and neurological status of the feet.
